The advantages of a campervan holiday are many and varied. Combining your transport, with accommodation and providing the opportunity to self-cater – any time of the day or night – makes this the perfect style of holiday for those who like to explore and set their own pace.

Our campervans provide a cost-effective alternative for holiday-makers. You are not restricted by bus schedules and when you find somewhere that you like – you can simply stay another day!

The Stats …

All our campervans are meticulously maintained 2002 to 2004 model, low-emission Nissan Caravans. With automatic transmissions and power steering they are a pleasure to drive and easy to park.

While a spacious interior, air-conditioning (heating), CD/MP3 player, thermal curtains, modern décor and ample storage space will ensure that your time on the road will be spent in comfort.

Our campervans are best suited for 2 x people however they can accommodate 3 people if needed. Seating in the cab consists of 2 bucket-seats plus a bench seat. While the living area converts into a queen-size equivalent bed – sleeping 3 side-by-side!

Each campervan comes complete with:

- Cooking Equipment – pots and pans
- Eating Utensils – plates, knives, forks and spoons
- Chilly Bin (Cold Storage Box)
- Kitchen sink with water reservoir and pump
- Gas-Cooker
- Outdoor chairs and foldaway picnic table
- Camp lights
- Heater
- 240V camping ground power connection cord

- Navman (satellite navigation unit)

Backpackerscars.com will provide you with a wealth of AA maps and travel guides, plus our friendly team are always keen to share suggested itineraries to make sure your holiday is a memorable one. We’ll even pick you up and drop you off at the airport!

What does it cost?

Our campervans are rented on a daily basis with a minimum rental period of 7-days. Rates are fully inclusive of government taxes and levies, AA Roadside Assistance (24/7), unlimited kilometres within the South Island and standard insurance (excess reductions can be purchased at an additional cost). Prices are quoted in New Zealand Dollars.

Daily Rates:
January - February $69
March - April $59
May – October - $59
November – December 2009 - $69

Optional Extras:

Bedding (Sheets,Duvets and Pillows) $20 per day (to a max of $300)

DVD Players $70 (one off fee for duration of hire)

Security Bond:

A security bond equal to the vehicle insurance excess will be taken via a credit card imprint at the beginning of the rental. This will be destroyed at the termination of the rental, subject to the following:
• No damage has been incurred to the vehicle or any third party property
• No items belonging to Backpackerscars.com have been lost or damaged
• The hire vehicle is returned in clean condition
• The fuel tank and LPG gas bottles are equal or more to that at departure.

Conditions of Rental:

To rent a Backpackerscars.com campervan the Driver must be over 21-years of age and hold a valid Drivers Licence from their country of origin. Our campervans are available for touring the South Island of New Zealand unfortunately they can not be taken to the North Island.

Insurance

Drivers aged between 21 and 25 years are subject to the following insurance levels:

Excess: $1,500
Optional Excess Reduction: $30 per day reduces the excess to $250 in the event of a claim.

Drivers aged over 25 years are subject to the following insurance levels:

Excess: $1,000
Optional Excess Reduction: $20 per day reduces the excess to $250 in the event of a claim.

Note: backpackerscars.com will only take a credit card imprint for the excess to cover any damage or loss in the unlikely event of an accident.

Cancellations:

Cancellations received more than 21 days prior to date of reservation will be refunded less a NZ$100 administration fee. Reservations cancelled within the 0-21 day period incur forfeiture of the NZ$300 deposit. Vehicles returned earlier than the agreed contracted date will not be eligible for a refund.
